Access and register

If you register in Metro Pay (or if you are already registered) and you pay with your physical credit card, you will benefit from the progressive discounts available from the first of January of 2025.

It continues to accumulate advantages on the EMV system (without a card or top ups). Travel all the month and make a single payment the first days of the following month. You will be able to look on the website and, on the Metro de Málaga App the number of validations done, and in this way, know the section discount applied in that moment, as well as the amount that will be charged to your account.

However, if you register and use your physical bank card, you will benefit from the progressive discounts, applying the rate (0,41€) during the first 20 trips of the month.

The system contemplates three sections and keeping the current discounts in mind, the prices will be:

  • Section 1 (from 1 to 20 trips): 0,41€
  • Section 2 (from 21 to 40 trips): 0,33€
  • Section 3 (from 41 trips onwards): 0,21€

What is it?

It is a validation and payment system that allows you to access and travel by metro using a EMV contactless bank card.

You will be able to travel using your physical debit or credit bank card or through your bank card on your smart device.

By doing this, you will not have to buy or top up your travel document/ticket which are issued at station ticket machines.

How does it work?

If you are going to use your EMV contactless card, you will be able to start travelling and enjoying the advantages of the Metro Pay system at any time.  You only have to place your physical or virtual card near the reader provided and the validation process will take place.

If you are not registered on Metro Pay or you use a different means of payment to your registered physical card, you will be charged €1.35, the price of a normal ticket “Billete Ocasional” and your journeys will be charged for at the end of the day.

However, if you register and use your physical bank card, you will benefit from the discounts which are valid and you will be charged the “TarifaMonedero” amount (top-up card fare – 0.41 cents.)

This means of payment also allows “multi-validation”, meaning that you can travel in a group, as long as you travel together from the start to the end of the journey and it applies to groups of up to 9 validations.
